Advanced Assignments for December
This month the Advanced classes begin the novel A Tale of Two Cities.
1. Read the six Sessions about Charles Dickens and answer the questions on sessions 1 and 2.
2. Read the web article about the French Revolution and asnwer the questions given in class.
3. Answer the daily questions on the novel chapters.

Advanced classes begin the intensive writing of their team novels.
Your writing pace is one chapter per week for the next seven weeks beginning in December.
Chapter one due December 2
Chapters two etc., due December 9, 16, 23, January 13, 20, 27.


Continue to study your vocabulary words. Use the vocabulary link to review daily.


Other December writing assignments:

1. The students will create a holocaust character, interview that character about surviving the great tragedy and then write a newspaper article about the interview.
2. Students will write a Jewish monologue.
3. Lincoln Eulogy. Read the Lincoln story in the LOL on page 770 and write a 250 word eulogy that you will deliver at the funeral.

Core Assignments for December
This month the core classes will begin their new novel, And One for All, a story about the Vietnam Era.
Students will begin reading one chapter a day, starting on December 1st and ending their reading on the 17th.
As a part of our deeper understanding of this novel, we will pause and do a little background research on the Vietnam War. Therefore go ahead and hit this link and let's get started.
Before you get started follow these instructions:
1. Open the Vitenam site and place it on one side of your computer screen. 2. Open the LMSRiptide site so you can read the questions to answer.
3. Open Word so you can type up your answers as you work.

Now let's get started: Read the background pages on the web site that explain the history of the Vietnam War and then answer the following questions:
1. How many people were killed in the war?
2. Who took the pictures for this web site?
3. Sketch a map of Vietnam and label the adjacent countries. (Use a piece of art paper for this).
4. Name the country that subjugated Vietnam in the mid-1800s?
5. When were the French defeated in Vietnam?
6. What year were the first American soldiers sent to Vietnam?
7. Who was the top military commander in Vietnam?
8. What year did the North Vietnamese conquer South Vietnam?
9. Locate 1 picture from each of the five categories at the top of the web site directory. (Machines, Faces, Hippies, Under Fire, and Life and Sorrow). Describe each picture you selected in detail What do you see? Write down your reflections as you gaze at each picture. What does this picture say to you?
10. Look at the time line at the bottom of the web site. What happened in 1945, 1954, 1963, 1965, 1969, 1974, 1975, 1997.
